Lumuma is situated in one of valleys in the range of mountains at the southern part of Mpwapwa District. The place is enriched with springs and rivers from the mountains. In one of a few rivers flowing from mountains, The congregation of St. Gemma Sisters decided to start the project with the assistant of a group of Italians guided by the late Fr. Franco Badiani in 1984.
The purpose of the project is to help the Lumuma community and villages around, to profit the natural resources found within the area. To get power from the river, rather than that of oil-generator which is expensive, they have been using for a long time.
Thanks to all who are supporting this health project. The present situation is a bit serious as climate changes have affected the plant because of dryness.
gratitude is due to Tanzania Government who from time to time encourage the welfare of the existence of the plant, although there is still a conflict of not having enough water to run it.
The community living around are the beneficiaries of the electricity and are asked to share the expenses of running it.
The power produced is used for domestic purposes, the health centre,
and other activities like welding, mechanics are also practiced here.
We expect to provide the service for the Lumuma Institute and to all villagers around. This will be successful in by a positive co operation between the local government and the administration of this project.
-The global changes of weather and droughts cause shortage of water. Many villagers are becoming aware of the use of rivers for irrigation and land cultivating.
Environmental impact: Therefore a need of environment planning is of very importance
The incharge of the centre is Sister Flora Francisca
The plant is not commercial.
